| General Information of National Park |
 | Nepal is a land of extreme contrasts in climate and geography, It has a unique topography ranging from lowlands with sub-tropical jungles to arctic conditions in the Himalayan highlands. Within a mere 150 kilometers the land rises from near sea level in the south to over 8000 meters in the North. This, together with the monsoon rainfall along the south facing slopes, has resulted in compacting virtually all climate zones found on planet Earth. | |
| As a result, Nepal has been endowed with a great diversity of life-zones providing a home for a large variety of plants, birds and animals. |
| The Terai lowlands are defined by a belt of well-watered floodplains stretching from the Indian border northward to the first slopes of the Bhabhar and the Siwalik Range. This is the richest habitat in the land with tall grasslands interspersed with riverine and hardwood sal forest . Here one can see wildlife such as the swamp deer, musk deer, black buck, blue bull, the royal Bengal tiger, gharial and marsh mugger crocodile and the last of a breed of Asiatic wild buffalo. This area is also rich in birdlife with a variety of babbles and orioles, koels and drongos, peacocks and floricans, and a multitude of wintering wildfowl. There are five protected areas in Nepal - Koshi Tappu and Parsa in the east, Sukla Phanta and Dhorpatan for hunting in the west and Shivapuri in the. mid-mountain region. The Churia, also known as the. siwalik, is the southern most range of the Himalaya. No where do they rise above 1,220 meters, This range is famous for fossil deposits of Pleistocene mammals, among them 10 species of elephants, 6 rhinoceros, hippopotamus, saber-toothed cats, various antelopes and primates such as the orang-utan, long extinct in the subcontinent, Situated north of the Churia are broad, low valleys of the inner Terai know as the Doons. These valleys are not unlike the outer plains with tall elephant grass, swamps and ox-bow lakes where the last of the one-horned rhinoceros survive. Royal Chitwan National Park in the Inner Terai of central Nepal is the first and best protected area in the kingdom. Once one of the most famous big game hunting areas in Asia. Chitwan now offers protection to a large array of mammals such as the. one-horned rhinoceros, tiger, leopard, sloth bear and the gaur (wild bison) as well as more than 400 species of birds. |
Higher in the north between 2000 and 3500 meters lies the Mahabharat Range with its oak crowned crests. The hills of this midland are covered by a moist temperate forest of deodar, oak, maple and birch in which are found deer, ghoral serow, leopard and monkey, The gorgeous multi-colored lmpeyan pheasant (Nepal's national bird) is also found here with other endangered birds like the koklas and Cheer Pheasants. Protected areas in this zone include Khapted National Park in the Far-West, Dhorpatan Hunting reserve, North-west of Pokhara and Shivapuri Wildlife Sanctuary near Kathmandu. |
| 3. White Water Rafting |
| White Water Rafting means cruising down a rushing river in an inflatable rubber raft or white water kayak over crashing waves and swirling rapids for the excitement of a lifetime. Nepal has earned a reputation as one of the best destinations in the world for white water rafting. Nepal's thundering waters, coming from the glaciers of the mighty Himalayas, provide unmatched thrills for rafting and immersing oneself in the landscape. A rafting trip is bound to be the highlight of your stay in the country. | | |
| Rivers are graded on a scale of one to six, with one being a swimming pool and six a one way ticket to your maker. Four is considered to be quite challenging without being exceedingly dangerous to the novice rafter. Five requires some previous river experience. |
| Rafting along Nepal's mountain rivers has become increasingly popular and Nepal has become almost as well known for its whitewater rafting as for its trekking. In fact many of the adventure trips to Nepal combine rafting and trekking expeditions. The rivers of Nepal are recognized as among the very best in the world for rafting and kayaking, with many runs providing the thrill of some of the world's finest rafting rivers while passing through unrivalled scenery covering a wide range of alpine and sub-tropical environments. No special experience is required for a rafting trip. As long as you don't mind doing some paddling and have no objections to wet clothes you're a suitable candidate for a whitewater trip. |
 | There are various levels of difficulty or ease-according to the stretch of river and the season, and you certainly don't have to be an expert, or indeed have had any previous experience of rafting, to be able to enjoy and take competent part in an organized, lower grade run. What is required is at least moderate physical fitness and some affinity for water. On the more challenging rivers this is not recommended unless you are experienced in rafting or kayaking, but it is possible to hire equipment (mainly in Kathmandu and Pokhara) and some rivers would be ideal for independent rafters. It is important to consult one of the reputable rafting companies in Nepal for conditions of the rivers you are intending to raft before setting off. Himalayan rivers are more active than most. | |

You will ride exhilarating whitewater followed by periods of calm, which give you time to admire the spectacular scenery away from busy roads and cities. |
| It is a popular myth that whitewater rafting is only for the young and super fit. Yes it is true that should you wish to run the big rivers you need to be fit, and maybe a little brave too. By using our grading system, which is carefully explained at the end of this page, you can choose the level of rafting experience best suited to your physical abilities. |
| There are no hard and fast rules about age limits while rafting. However, our general requirements are that you be over 18 years old, and are a competent swimmer. Remember, that some of these rafting trips operate in quite remote areas; therefore you must be prepared to embrace the culture of the country you are visiting. For more detailed information regarding the specific profile of a rafting trip, please refer to our advice in the 'Grading' Section at the bottom of the page. |
| When on the water all meals are included, and consist of camp cooked breakfasts and dinners, and picnic style lunches. They are always of a very high standard and, as rafting is hungry work, they are also very substantial. All meals are hygienically prepared and cooked by you and your guides. As this is often considered a highlight of the rafting trip, we ensure that the food is varied, tasty and correct for those hard worked muscles. |
| When on the water all accommodation is camping based. We provide all the necessary equipment including two-person tents, sleeping bags, mats and toilet tents. There is no facility for showers, however there are plenty of opportunities for a swim in the river, even when you may not want to. |
| Our maximum group size for any rafting trip is 15, plus the required numbers of guides and safety paddlers. Larger groups have a far more detrimental impact on the local environment than we believe to be necessary, and on some of our rafting trips, the maximum number may be less. |
